So, how does a group prepare for emergencies?
Start by participating in the All T.E.NETs ham net (All Tucson Emergency NET) (All Tenets because this site is for all faiths) every Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. at 146.880, negative offset with the repeater on top of Mt. Lemmon. That repeater is duplicated on 147.300 MHz, positive offset located at the Pima Emergency Communications Operations Center. We will have a training period every week on the ham net. We will offer help in becoming FCC (Federal Communications Commission) licensed to operate an amateur (ham) radio.

The way a ham net works
The way a ham net works is in our case starting at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday one only needs to listen in on the 146.880 frequency & if you are not a member of the net you can become a member simply by waiting as the roll call is taken by the net control. Once he is done at dealing with members he asks if there are visitors. At that point you can give the net control you FCC call sign & he can put you down as a member if you would like to join & from then on you will get information on upcoming events & ways the net can help with specific details to assist your group with emergency preparedness.

Just as soon as All T.E.NETs becomes aware of an emergency & the nature of it we will inform everyone via ham radio over the same frequency that the Pima County Office of Emergency Management (P.C.O.E.M.) uses. There are members of our team who serve with the P.C.O.E.M. Once you become aware of the nature of an emergency you will be updated as soon as the information is available to us. Then depending on whether the emergency is such that the Pima County Office of Emergency Management recommends what everyone should do you will know whether you should grab a ‘72 hour kit’* & take yourself & any family members to some safe distance away or whether you should hunker down & gather your family around you at Home.
